Goa govt plans to convert buses & ferryboats to electric by 2025
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Goa during a webinar sent suggestions to the government is that of the settlement of customer-related issues and for the consumer benefit and rapid adoption of EVs, the government will also ask the stakeholders to arrange free test drives with the objective to inform consumers about the technology and its advantages. The Goa govt had announced that it will offer subsidies to 11,000 electric vehicles every year for the next five years. So this policy will be implemented for 5 years.
The Goa govt aims that this policy will transform the vehicular operations in Goa. Apart from public transport, private vehicle owners will also be able to stop using their ICE vehicles and adopt electric vehicles.
In a bid to cut down on carbon emissions in the state the Goa government intends to convert buses with this regard a draft policy also intends to convert 50% of Goa’s ferryboats to electric by 2025. To support the adoption of electric mobility in the state the start-ups and investment and associated sectors are likely to be involved and the service units and battery repair and maintenance stations are likely to come up. It hopes to create 10,000 jobs in the sector by 2025 as a result.
According to the vehicle density of each area charging stations will be installed more and the charging stations operators will have the online mode of payments such as card, mobile wallet and UPI and also the cash. The policy will be offered to the finance department for approval and further steps will be taken for its implementation.
