EVs Success Story-MITS students invented hybrid electric jeep
As the world is looking out for eco-friendly solutions, EVs plays a vital role to reduce vehicular pollution (air pollution and sound pollution).
This seemed to be a daydreaming many years ago but from few years it has emerged and made its way to provide eco-friendly mobility all over the world.
India In spite of being a developing country its EVs market is growing rapidly as the manufacturers and the government of India is making many initiatives to promote the electric vehicles in the country.
In line up with the manufacturers and government, many engineering students have started their innovations in this field.
EVs success story of final year mechanical engineering students
The final year mechanical engineering students from Madanapalle Institute of Technology and Science (MITS), Madanapalle, Chittoor invented the hybrid electric vehicle.
The students, D Reddy Manoj, K Pradeep, J Satyanarayana Snehith, K Mohan Reddy, S Purushottham, S Mohammad Rizwan, S Ghouse Samdhani and Mohammad Ansaari combinely retrofitted a normal diesel engine vehicle into a hybrid one.
The students said that most of the people still don’t know about the benefits of the electric vehicles for that reason the hybrid vehicles were later discovered. The usage of hybrid and electric vehicles concerning to reduce the air and noise pollution in the country.
Hybrid Vehicles
A hybrid vehicle can be explained as it will have a two power source or we can say as the combination of both petrol or diesel engine and an electric motor.
The jeep had a diesel engine in it. The power from diesel engine transfers to the clutch, transmission system, propeller shaft, rear two wheels.
The students said, “We have installed an electric power-train system in this vehicle to make it a hybrid one.”
Specifications of retrofitted Jeep
Talking about the specifications of the jeep after retrofitting, it can give 60 kmph in an electric mode and 70 kilometers per hour in diesel mode in a single charge.
The charging time for the battery to be fully charged is 6 hours. When the battery is discharged the diesel engine will come into its role, it starts working.
The cost to convert IC engine jeep to hybrid electric
To convert the IC engine jeep to hybrid electric it cost around Rs 3.2 lakh.
