Court orders Tata to refund Rs 16.95 lakh for Nexon EV fire

The Hyderabad High Court has ordered Tata Motors to refund Rs 16.95 lakh to a Nexon EV owner whose car caught fire in 2021. This is the first case where a court has ruled in favor of a Nexon EV owner who has faced a fire incident.

The incident occurred in April 2021 when a Nexon EV owned by Mr. Avinash caught fire while parked in a parking lot in Hyderabad. Mr. Avinash claimed that the fire was caused by a defect in the car’s battery pack. Tata Motors denied any wrongdoing and claimed that the fire was caused by external factors.

The case went to court, and after a lengthy trial, the court ruled in favor of Mr. Avinash. The court found that Tata Motors was responsible for the fire and ordered the company to refund the purchase price of the car, along with interest.

This ruling is a significant victory for Nexon EV owners who have faced fire incidents. It sets a precedent that Tata Motors can be held liable for defects in their cars, even if the exact cause of the fire is difficult to determine.

Tata Motors has not yet issued a statement on the court’s ruling. It is unclear whether the company will appeal the decision.

In the meantime, Nexon EV owners are advised to be vigilant and report any concerns about their cars to Tata Motors immediately.
