BMW to launch MINI Electric in India. It will go on sale in the international market from March 2020. MINI Electric will be available in 3 trim levels, Level 1, 2 and 3. It offers a driving range of 233 km on a single charge.
BMW to launch MINI Electric in India
The German car maker, BMW Group is considering to launch MINI Electric in India. It is MINI’s first all-electric vehicle and was revealed earlier this year. MINI Electric will go on sale in the international market from March 2020.
The car maker says that if the Indian market is ready to welcome electric mobility, they will launch the MINI Electric. The company has a facility in Chennai to assemble CKD units and it is likely to launch the MINI Electric in India via CKD to keep the price in check.
Currently, the German luxury car maker is studying the possibility of electric vehicles in India. The company is saying that it is very much linked to the ability of India to build infrastructure. It is a challenging task for our country to establish the charging infrastructure for mass-adoption of EVs.
The MINI Electric will be launched in the global market with the price starting from Rs. 22.45 Lakhs (£24,400). It will be available in three trim levels, Level 1, 2 and 3. The electric motor equipped in MINI will produce 184 HP and 270 NM of torque. It can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/hr in 7.3 seconds.
It will offer a total driving range of 233 km on a single charge. With a fast charger, the battery charges from 0 to 80 percent in 36 minutes. While by using regular 3-pin home charger, it takes 12 hours to charge the battery fully. The MINI Electric comes with a fully-digital instrument cluster.
