Ashok Leyland’s Switch Mobility unveils new ECV models

MSMEs, handicrafts, and e-commerce in India can benefit from an exceptionally low total cost of ownership (TCO)


On its 75th anniversary, Ashok Leyland, the leading commercial vehicle manufacturer and the flagship of the Hinduja Group, has launched the IeV series, Switch Mobility’s range of electric light commercial vehicles, under the auspices of the Hinduja Group by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways.

Ashok Leyland also introduced its latest innovation, a 9-meter-long hydrogen fuel cell electric bus developed for the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). This is the first commercial fuel cell bus in India. In addition, the company displayed the country’s first hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine truck, the result of a partnership with Reliance Industries.

Founded in 1948, Ashok Leyland played a key role in shaping India’s commercial mobility scene and became one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers in the country. The IeV series is India’s first electric utility vehicle in its segment, providing efficient and eco-friendly solutions for last-mile transportation needs. The SWITCH IeV series offers an attractive value proposition for MSMEs, handicrafts, and e-commerce in India, with an exceptionally low total cost of ownership (TCO) and high uptime commitment.

Dheeraj Hinduja, President of Ashok Leyland and Switch Mobility, described the company’s 75-year journey as a story of transformation and innovation. He expressed enthusiasm for the future and renewed the company’s commitment to shaping the future of the commercial vehicle industry while supporting India’s economic growth.

Shenu Agarwal, CEO and CEO of Ashok Leyland, highlighted the company’s history of redefining industry standards and its commitment to pioneering sustainable transportation solutions. He said the 75th anniversary not only recognizes the company’s past achievements but also demonstrates its determination to continue to shape the future of the mobile industry.

Mahesh Babu, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, hailed the launch of the SWITCH IeV series as a decisive moment for the company, underscoring the company’s commitment to driving positive change in the industry.

As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, Ashok Leyland launched the ‘Dream Drive’ initiative, which involved 10 Ashok Leyland vehicles following 5 different routes across the country, culminating in are modern production plants of the company.

This initiative allows Ashok Leyland to interact with its vast network of customers, agents, suppliers, and other partners, and to express gratitude for their contributions. Another campaign, “Manzil ka Safar”, featuring iconic Stallion defense vehicles, traveled more than 4,000 kilometers from Kanyakumari to Leh, noting the company’s longstanding partnership with the Self-Defense Forces.
