Amitabh Kant Backs Indian EV Makers in Race Against Tesla
NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has strongly advocated for India’s leadership in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, emphasizing that domestic automakers will play a crucial role in shaping the country’s EV landscape. He expressed confidence that Indian companies like Tata Motors and Mahindra would ensure that Tesla does not dominate the Indian market.
Speaking at a recent event, Kant stressed the need for a nationwide transition to EVs, urging greater government adoption and support for local manufacturers. “Tatas and Mahindras‘ competitive pricing will make it difficult for Tesla to succeed in India,” he stated, highlighting the strong presence and commitment of Indian companies in the EV space.
Kant also shared his personal commitment to the EV revolution. “I drive an EV and have just booked a Mahindra EV,” he revealed, underscoring his belief in India’s homegrown electric vehicle industry. His endorsement aligns with the government’s push for cleaner transportation and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.
