A new electric car architecture is showcased by Tata.

Tata SVU'S

Punch EV’s ‘Pure EV’ platform will also underpin Harrier EV.

Tata SVU'S

On the upcoming Punch EV, Tata will unveil its new ‘pure EV’ electrical architecture. The Acti.EV architecture (pronounced ‘active’) will underpin a wide range of new Tata EVs and SUVs, including the upcoming Curvv EV, the new Sierra EV, and the Harrier EV.

Acti.EV from Tata: battery and motor

Many different battery pack types will be capable of being used with Tata’s new Acti.EV architecture. Among them are LFP batteries, which appear to be the most appropriate solution given the climate and conditions in our area. An 11 kW AC charger or a 150 kW DC charger will be able to charge the batteries, which will deliver a range of between 300 and 600 kilometers.

Tata EV

In addition to four-wheel drive, front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive options are available with the Acti.EV architecture. A 400-volt architecture will be used, and both permanent magnet synchronous motors and induction motors may be used in the future. Shortly, we may see some very powerful electric vehicles with power outputs between 80 and 230 horsepower.

Tata's EV Design

Many new charging capabilities will be available under the new architecture, including vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) as well as vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging.

Acti.EV: chassis and electrical system

Also, the Acti.EV architecture has been designed to achieve a 5-star rating in crash tests, particularly as future standards are likely to become more stringent. Tata Motors states that the crash structure has been designed to protect the battery during side and pole impact tests, which is critical to electrical safety. Tata Motors says a high percentage of ultra-high strength steel has been used in the crash structure.

The cars will have efficient packaging – a flat floor will be standard – and will have a frunk (a small front boot) and extra ground clearance. We’ve taken great care to make sure that extra ground clearance is available for our roads and speed breakers, as well as for difficult conditions. When it comes to electrical architecture, we’ll have a 5 G-enabled system that allows for on-the-road updates as well as cloud computing. The digital cockpit experience will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor and compatible chipsets, and the digital screens and the experience will be open to 3rd party applications and services. Some of the models we’ll launch will have Level 2 autonomous driving tech, with the possibility of Level 2+ in the pipeline.

Tata Arci.Ev

It’s likely to be the flagship of the brand, underpinning all of Tatas current lineup in the future, with more models likely to follow at a later stage. This isn’t to be confused with Tatas previous announcement of a Premium Pure EV architecture (commonly referred to as the EMA) shared with JLR, which will underpin more premium cars such as the tata avinya. Tata has two pure electric vehicle (EV) architectures in the pipeline as it aims to launch 10 EVs in the next few years.
