With ’25 for 5km and ’50 for 10km’ for electric bike taxi rides, Ola is back in Bengaluru
Ola has once again launched e-bike taxis in Bangalore. The company’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced the service through his social media post, offering rides at ₹25 for 5 km and ₹50 for 10 km, with plans to expand nationwide.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder and CEO of Ola posted on social media platform X that the company was relaunching the Ola Bike service in Brooklyn. This time, they’re going all-electric with their own S1 scooter.
Bicycle fares are fixed at ₹25 for a distance of 5 kilometers and ₹50 for a distance of 10 kilometers, as stated by Bhavish Aggarwal.
“INR 25 for 5 km, INR 50 for 10 km. Cheapest, very comfortable, and environmentally friendly! This will expand across India in the coming months,” Aggarwal added.
Recently, the Bengaluru Auto and Taxi Association urged the Karnataka government to ban bike taxis in the city under HT. They say the bikes pose safety concerns for women and say operating them with white license plates is illegal. Additionally, there have been reports of car drivers assaulting Rapido bike taxi drivers because of their presence.
The government has announced that implementing the bike taxi ban will require compliance with legal procedures. Following the announcement of a Bengaluru bandh by the Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Associations, Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced his intention to respond and address the concerns of auto drivers and state taxis.
Meanwhile, Ola has joined the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to offer food delivery services and is currently visible to only a handful of users, Moneycontrol reported.
Sources told Moneycontrol that the company has been testing the feature for over a month in its employee app and a small number of consumers are using it.
He added that the feature is currently available on the app under the name ‘OLA ONDC foods’ as sources also said on a daily basis that Ola will not launch a separate delivery app.
