A week ago due to the life-threatening air quality crisis, the schools had been shut, six of 11 power plants had halted operations and thousands of government employees were asked to work from home or use only public transport. Now the government had announced that schools, colleges and educational institutions in the national capital will reopen from November 29. Work from home for government offices will also end on November 29, but the government had requested people to use public transport.
The air quality in Delhi slipped backed to the “very poor” category showing a significant improvement the day before. As per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) dipped to 330 today from 280 on Wednesday morning.
The city’s 30 flights were diverted for low visibility, schools are shut under a public health emergency and construction activities are banned. Supreme Court of India prohibited the bursting of crackers after Diwali and cars with odd or even number plates are only allowed to drive on given days. But these are just temporary solutions that the government is finding to shut the voices of the people.
