APSRTC to operate 100 electric buses in Tirupati

The State government will run 100 electric buses in Tirupati intercity and in Tirumala shortly. This step has been taken to prevent pollution in the temple city, said APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director (VC&MD) Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.

APSRTC has issued an e-tender for operating 350 electric buses in Visakhapatnam (100 buses), Tirupati (50), Tirumala (50), Vijayawada (50) and Kakinada (50 buses). The tender process has been completed.

The bidders have to look after the operation and the maintenance of the buses. This will also include the installation of an 11 kV substation, charging stations, related equipment and maintenance.

The bus sizes are expected to be 9 meters and 12m and it offers demand incentives as per the FAME India guidelines. The contract will be for 12 years. As per the MoU, Urja Global will invest ₹2 billion (~$28.55 million) which is helpful to create 250 direct and 1,000 indirect employment opportunities. These manufacturing units will be set up at Anantapur, Nellore and Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.
