DDC signs MoU with think tank to deal with air pollution

Air pollution in India is the major cause of climate change and global warming. The automobile industry is one of the main reasons for air pollution in the country. As we all are aware that India is the fifth most polluted country in the world.

To deal with the air pollution the Delhi government’s Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) signed an MoU with think tank to suggest and analyse policy and legal framework to address air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

DDC vice-chairman Jasmine Shah said that the Delhi government has shown the political will to tackle air pollution by bringing the solutions such as odd-even road rationing scheme for vehicles, launching an electric vehicle policy and an experiment of the Push bi decomposer solution to deal with the stubble burning.

He adds that with this partnership with Vidhi Centre for legal policy, they are willing to work on the next generation of solutions to further reduce air pollution in Delhi.”

Vidhi will closely work with the DDC to suggest policy and legal reforms to tackle air pollution in Delhi and NCR region. It will also look after the analysing part of various directions passed by the courts and authorities on air pollution in the region said the Delhi government.

In another government initiative, the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently announced that “Another crucial step towards ensuring a pollution-free Delhi. This incentive-based policy will encourage large scale adoption of electric vehicles, and bring us closer to fulfilling our dream of making Delhi the EV capital of India. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced an anti-pollution campaign “Yuddh Pradushan Ke Virudh” to reduce air pollution levels in Delhi for the upcoming winter season.”

He is taking various steps to reduce the pollution levels in Delhi such as Green Delhi app, creation of a war room to monitor steps on a real-time basis, processing liquid solution for farm fields to prevent stubble burning, implementing hotspot-specific action plans would be a part of the campaign.

This campaign will continue throughout the winters when pollution reaches peaks and forces Delhi to go for a public health emergency every year. The government will take several initiatives such as a 24×7 war room, pollution hotspots and the repair of potholes.
