Grinntech in talks with OEMs plans Rs 100 Cr outlay for R&D
The Grinntech is an IIT-Madras Research Park incubated startup specialised in lithium-ion batteries is in talks with OEMs to supply batteries and related systems. The Grinntech recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a battery and battery management system-manufacturing facility in the state to serve electric vehicles.

It has planned an outlay of almost Rs 100 crore for research and development, product development and production facilities which results in the employment of 250 staff in next 5 years.
It has a range of high-tech lithium-ion batteries, along with battery management systems which can be used for two- and three-wheelers, light vehicles and tractors.
“The company is engaged in discussions with a number of OEMs and fleet operators for supply of batteries and related systems,” the company said. Grinntech co-founder Puneet Jain said, “We are grateful to the government of Tamil Nadu for their vision in attracting investment in fast-growing EV and EV component sectors.”
Grinntech has unveiled a range of high-tech batteries with a unique design which suits the Indian conditions. It has IoT enabled BMS to power two-wheelers, three-wheelers and tractors/light vehicles.
The company in a press release said that electric vehicles growth is boosted in India by government incentives and a corresponding flurry of new EV models launched by Indian manufacturers. It has been noticed that the battery technology and battery cost will determine the speed of EV adoption by the customers.
“It was always our dream to create a technologically advanced lithium-ion battery product- line that was built-to-cost for Indian conditions along with its production system. We are hopeful that we will catch the fast-growing wave for EV products by Indian customers,” said Nikhilesh Mishra and Puneet Jain, the co-founders of Grinntech.
“The state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries are characterised by a wide range of chemistries, cell formats and battery pack design features and require to be carefully managed during charging and while in use.”
The company is focused on energy storage solutions with their years of dedicated R&D. Its new facility will be able to manufacture battery solutions for two-wheeler and three-wheeler. It also manufactures Pintail an IOT-enabled 2-wheeler starter battery and the Falcon, large battery that suits for tractors and light vehicles.
