Amidst lockdown Pure EV sales raised to 300%, supplies
lithium to healthcare tech firms
IIT Hyderabad incubated Pure EV is India’s largest two-wheeler market in the world. As the country has started the unlock process since June. As the coronavirus pandemic is on the rise many people are preferring personal mobility to commute as it can help in maintaining the social distance.

The company says that the business in June was up to 30% when it compared to what it was in February and March. It expects the sales to double in the next quarter and by Diwali, it will reach to touch the sales of 1,000 units per month.
Nishanth Dongari, the founder of Pure EV said that “There is a significant desire to own a two-wheeler, and especially preferring the electric two-wheeler due to low cost of ownership and portable charging of batteries. Overall, we are anticipating a 300 per cent growth rate in the current financial year ending March 2021, compared with the previous year.”

According to the Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV), 1,56,000 EVs were sold in the year-end March 2020, which means 20% from a year ago. There are also other leading two-wheeler manufacturers such as Hero Electric Ampere, Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy, Bajaj, etc who also contributes to the EV two-wheeler market in India.
ePluto 7G electric scooter
The Pure EV had launched the ePluto 7G electric scooter. Its other products include the Etrance electric moped and e-bikes Egnite and Etron.
The ePluto 7G electric scooter is a high-Speed electric scooter. It gives a top speed of 60 kmph and gives a range of 90 to 120 km range. It can accelerate 0 to 40 kmph in just 5 seconds. It has a 60V brushless Hub Motor and is equipped with a powerful battery pack of 2.5 KWh patented battery. It has been launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 79,999 with a 40,000 km warranty on its battery. It comes with three colour variants such as white, red and blue.
The company is also planning to launch new electric scooter at much affordable price in September and also it will launch an electric motorcycle in January 2021. It is also looking for bulk orders from food delivery companies and ride-hailing apps will give its sales a boost. Dongari said that ePluto has been tested by the majority of the companies.
Set up a bigger manufacturing facility
It is also looking to set up a bigger manufacturing facility. “We have approached the Telangana government to construct a bigger manufacturing facility which can produce 1.2 lakh scooters per annum and will also be setting up a 15,000 square feet research and development centre at IIT Hyderabad by early next year,” said Dongari.
At current facility, is able to produce 2,000 units per month in a single shift. It has 81 active outlets and plans to expand its distribution network to cater to the growing demand. By September this year, it will have 120 outlets operational and plans to expand the network to 200 by March 2021.

Emergency use ventilator-‘Jeevan Lite’
The company has supplied Lithium batteries to IIT-H Centre for Healthcare Entrepreneurship (CfHE)-incubated startup Aerobiosys Innovations, which has developed a low-cost, portable, emergency use ventilator called ‘Jeevan Lite.’
The device gives protection to healthcare providers and it is an Internet of Things-enabled and can be operated through a phone app. The mass manufacturing of these ventilators will be done by JCB India Pvt Ltd. PURE EV has also provided Lithium batteries to Eternal Green Innovations Private Limited who are working in the space of robotic healthcare tech devices.
Dr Nishanth Dongari, Founder and Managing Director of PURE EV, and Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, IIT-H, said, “We have significant experience in design and development of high-performance Lithium batteries through our constant innovation for EV batteries,”
We have state-of-the-art facilities for the assembly and testing of the Lithium battery packs. In this critical time, we want to extend our best possible support to the healthcare tech industry’s requirements for backup power. The batteries designed by us are extremely useful for robotic applications and have significant advantages in terms of longer life cycles and portability.”
The company in its achievements have raised funding at a valuation of USD 35 Million some months ago and established a 40,000-sq.ft. the state-of-the-art facility, co-located with IIT-H, for cutting-edge R&D and for large scale production of electric vehicles and electric batteries. At present its battery manufacturing capacity of 5 Megawatt hour (Mwh) per month at its facility.
