The oil marketing giant, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched an ‘e-drive initiative’ an electric three-wheeler mobility model.

It has partnered with electric vehicles manufacturer Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions Ltd and IIT Madras for technology support. BPCL has brought an on-stream supply of swappable lithium-ion batteries at its retail outlets in Kochi and Lucknow in the first phase for electric three-wheelers.

The Kinetic Green deployed its three-wheelers fleets in two cities which is owned by them and the drivers pay rental for use of vehicles and a fee for energy provided by BPCL. There is no maintenance cost.

The chairman and managing director, BPCL, D Rajkumar said due to increasing air pollution, disposable incomes and rapid urbanisation in India future mobility is much needed.

“Electric vehicles would be having an increasing share of the urban transportation canvass in the years to come,” he said, “We are happy to have collaborated with two strong partners, the IIT Madras for technological support and Kinetic Green as a mobility partner.”

The three-wheelers are powered by two batteries and when the charge drains it can be brought to the BPCL outlets where you can replace it with fully charged ones.
The CEO of Kinetic Green, Sulajja Firodia Motwani said that the EV with swappable battery technology will reduce the cost of the vehicle by 50 per cent. “Customers never have to worry about battery charging and replacement.”

Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions Limited have signed an MoU with the MahaMetro to provide last mile connectivity with their e-rickshaws to the commuters. Kinetic Energy will provide its electric three-wheelers ‘Kinetic Safar.’
