Highlights:

100 e-Buses for Visakhapatnam
As a part of the major step to promote the eco-friendly public transport system, the APSRTC will acquire 1,000 electric buses for the state of Andhra Pradesh. Out of 1000, 100 electric buses have been sanctioned to the port city, Visakhapatnam in the first phase and 350 more buses would be added to the fleet of Andhra Pradesh State Transport Corporation eventually.
“The tender process is on. The procurement could take about three to four months,” RTC (Visakhapatnam) Regional Manager M.Y. Danam said on Thursday.

Mentioning about the charging points for these electric buses, he said that the successful bidder would set up charging facilities at various places, in accordance with the consultation made with the corporation. “The first charging station will be set up at the Waltair depot,” Mr. Danam said.
The electric buses not only help to reduce pollution but also in throttle down the running cost by more than 50 %. The cost of operating a diesel bus is up to ₹14 per km, where as for an electric bus is ₹6 per km. The electric bus manufacturer will give proper training to the RTC drivers in the operation of the electric buses. Some of the electric buses allocated to the city would be deployed in the rural areas, once all the 450 buses are received.
