Uttarakhand to get 50 Electric Buses

Uttarakhand to get 50 Electric Buses. Uttarakhand Transport Corporation conducted a trial run of Electric buses between Dehradun and Mussoorie last year. By seeing the successful run of these buses, the state transport corporation has now decided to introduce 50 electric buses in its fleet soon. Besides this, the corporation will also be procuring 10 CNG buses, mostly by the end of the next year.

According to close sources, 30 of these 50 electric buses will be used within the capital city of Dehradun. Out of the 30, 22 will run within the city, while the rest will be used for inter-city routes. The aim is to have eco-friendly vehicles as a part of Dehradun’s transport fleet in order to make it as a Smart City.

As per the latest news, Uttarakhand authorities will be floating tenders for the electric buses by next month. The budget for this has been procured under the FAME-II regulation by the Centre to the State governments, to use electric buses in their state transport fleets. Whereas CNG buses, will be procured only by the end of this year, after these electric buses are introduced.

The transition to electric buses, is gaining momentum as a part of a country-wide effort to replace the existing diesel buses with electric ones.

Ahmedabad also recently placed the largest-ever order of 300 electric buses to be procured from Tata Motors. As long as such preferences are given to electric vehicles in public transport fleets, the national aim of using battery powered vehicles instead of diesel engine ones will attain attention from the general public as well. If and only if both the government and public work together co-operativley towards this common aim, we can make this possible.
