UT Administration to add 80 electric buses in its fleet-Chandigarh
The Central government to provide a subsidy of Rs 50 lakh for each electric bus of the 80 sanctioned in the city, Chandigarh. Under the ministry of heavy industries and public enterprises, the department of heavy industries is administering the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India Scheme since April 2015 to promote the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles.

Phase II of FAME India Scheme is in implementation for 3 years from April 1, 2019, with a budget of Rs 10,000 crore. The government last month had announced 80 electric buses for Chandigarh. It will soon pass a new tender to buy the buses.
Chandigarh is said to have the highest density of vehicles in India with around 12 lakh registered vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers. You can find a minimum of two vehicles per house which has resultant in pollution in the air.
To reduce the pollution levels in the city the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) will now include these electric buses in its fleets.
Recently, the Government of Goa road transport KTC (Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd) was in talks with Hyderabad-based electric bus manufacturer to finalise the electric buses for Goa. The KTC will set up charging stations across its bus stands.
The KTC General Manger, Sanjay Ghate said that they have informed 25 buses that will be ready soon and will start arriving in Goa in small batches by the third week of December.

This initiative comes under the part of the 100 electric buses that the union government has sanctioned under FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India ) India scheme.
KTC officials test drove the first bus or prototype during their current visit to Hyderabad. However, this bus will not be operated in Goa in November as it was initially planned.
Recently the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) had also issued a tender inviting bid for 150 electric buses. The last day for the online submission of technical and price bids was September 30, 2020. The tender comes under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles-II (FAME-II) program.
