This consideration will bring dual benefits, one is spurring demand for new vehicles and it also protects the environment. This move comes close on the heels of countries like France and Germany for adopting more and more EVs.The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering the car scrappage scheme in order to give a boost to the automotive sector in current Covid-19 times.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic all over the world, there is a huge loss in every sector mostly the automotive industry, the supply chains and the sales demands have drastically fallen. In this situation, the incentives to buy new EVs could act as a catalyst for makers of such cars in the UK.
The formal announcement will be made by Johnson as early as July 6. Tesla is also planning to set up a factory in the UK.
As we all are aware of Tesla’s EVs famous all over the world and the company’s factories generate huge revenues and employment opportunities. Telsa ad other automakers can bring their electric cars but the demand for such vehicles will be high and this is where car scrappage policy promises to be a majorly of OEMs.
Few countries like France and Germany have already planned to boost the adoption of EVs in the coming months and years. Even India is in the final stages of coming out with a car scrappage policy that can give some great incentives for the owners of old or polluting vehicles to buy new vehicles. However, this will includes all new vehicles not just EVs.This will help the Indian auto sector.
Nitin Gadkari, Minister of MSME and Road Transport and Highways, said last month that “Now, we are going to start the new scrapping policy, by which old cars, trucks and buses will be scrapped.”
