TVS Motor to launch India’s first ethanol motorcycle an alternate to EV?

Chennai based TVS Motor to launch India’s first ethanol motorcycle. As the government is pushing and promoting the adoption of electric vehicles to reduce the pollution levels from the country, TVS is launching ethanol motorcycle version of the Apache 200.

In the first phase of its launch, it will produce in some of the States producing sugarcane in India. Producing ethanol vehicles may also include the tie-ups with the sugar mill owners in some states.

Bio-ethanol is produced from biomass which contains sugary products such as sugar cane, sugar beet, and sweet sorghum.

National policy on Biofuels

In 2018, the government had brought a National policy on Biofuels which states 20% of ethanol blend in petrol by 2030.

The Union petroleum minister, Dharmendra Prasad said that ethanol has been already blended to 6.2% whereas it was 0.67% in 2012-13.

The Union Minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari warned the sugar mills to switch to produce ethanol. If they did not switch to producing ethanol they would risk becoming dysfunctional.




At the sugar conference organized by the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank, Mr. Gadkari said that the surplus production of sugar is a major problem and it is hard to reduce it and also it is difficult to change the crop patterns. Sugar mills must decide either they want to produce sugar or ethanol from sugar juice.

Apache RTR 200 Fi Ethanol

Apache RTR 200 Fi Ethanol comes with a price tag of 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom). It is Equipped with Twin-Spray-Twin-Port EFI technology. It is limited to Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka.

It is powered by a 197.75 cc, SI, 4-stroke, the oil-cooled engine which gives a torque of 21 PS and 18.1 Nm. It has a top speed of 129 kmph.
