TVS & BMW Motorrad extends partnership to develop electric vehicles

TVS Motor Company India’s leading two-wheeler company and BMW Motorrad are extending their partnership to develop electric vehicles.

The companies are likely to announce a joint alliance for developing and exporting electric vehicles from India. Their first product is jointly developed by both companies that will be showcased to the world in the next two years. Both the companies will jointly develop new platforms and make their exclusive products on these common platforms.

As per the partnership, the TVS will design and develop future BMW Motorrad products as well as look after supply chain management, and industrialisation.

TVS and BMW Motorrad has first signed their long-term strategic partnership in April 2013 to manufacture sub-500cc motorcycles for the global markets. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad said that “Our strong synergies have led to the development of impressive offerings in the sub-500cc segment.”

Their products are widely accepted across all over the world such as in the EU, the US, Japan, China and India. “In light of our fruitful association with TVS, we are delighted to extend our cooperation to include, joint development of new platforms including electric vehicles,” Schramm added.

TVS Motor has announced that it has partnered with Tata Power for the implementation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI) across the country. As per the memorandum of understanding (MoU) both the companies will implement Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) across India and deploy solar power technologies at TVS Motor locations.

TVS Motor had also announced in 2019 that it is going to launch India’s first ethanol motorcycle. As the government is pushing and promoting the adoption of electric vehicles to reduce the pollution levels in the country, TVS is launching an ethanol motorcycle version of the Apache 200.
