India

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has decided to launch next-generation bicycles and electric bicycles under the cycle sharing system from January 19 in Chennai. At current, the city has 50 dockless cycle stations in the city and 500 ordinary bicycles adding electric and next-generation bicycles it will get additional 100 dockless cycle stations. The plan is to deploy 500 electric bicycles and 500 next-generation bicycles.

According to a Chennai Corporation source, fares for the Electric bicycles have been fixed. For the first 10 minutes, users have to pay Rs 10 and for every additional 10 minutes, Re 1 would be charged. These bicycles can run at a maximum speed of 20 kilometres per hour and can be parked at any of the dockless stations.

Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) launched a pilot basis on 10 with only 225 cycles now have 11,000 regular users and as many as 15,000 people have downloaded the mobile app, Smart Bike. Of 225 bicycles currently available, 100 are pedal-assisted electric bicycles (e-bikes). The number of e-bikes will be increased to 75% in the next phase of installation.

Recently, Nahak Motors has launched made in India electric bicycles which are fully manufactured in India and 100% localised. This Electric bicycles starting price is Rs 27,000. The Hon’ble Minister of State (MSME) Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi has launched this electric cycles. This electric cycles can give a range of 25 km on a single charge of 2 hours.

Bermuda (British island territory)

According to the Bermuda (a British island territory)Road Safety Council, the Ministry of Transport will be lobbied to bring electrically boosted bicycles under the same regulations as motorcycles.

Europe 

Electric bicycles are the largest growth sector in the bicycle market, the rapid growth in e-bikes could see them eventually outsell cars in Europe. Italian bicycle manufacturer Bianchi unveiled a new series of electric bicycles as part of its E-Omnia family.

It is powered by the Bosch Performance CX motor, which puts out 85 Nm of torque and provides up to 340% rider assist. It comes with two battery options 500Wh or 625Wh. The C-Type starts at €3,320 (approximately US$4,025).

Ducati e-Scrambler electric bike is from Italian motorcycle manufacturer. It is an upgraded version to Thok’s current MIG line of electric mountain bikes.

It features the Shimano Steps E7000 motor of 250 watts which produces a 60 Nm of torque, all from a pint-sized 2.8 kg (6 lb) mid-drive setup. It gets power with a 504 Wh Shimano battery.
