GM’s Factory Zero plant began production of Edition 1 of the 2024 Hummer EV SUV
- The Hummer SUV EV is now being manufactured by GMC, and customers will begin receiving their vehicles in the first quarter.
- The Hummer SUV will start production with the already sold-out Edition 1.
- Both the SUV and pickup will be built at GM’s Factory Zero in Detroit Hamtramck.
Reservations are booming! GM’s Buick and GMC’s global vice president Duncan Aldred confirmed that Hummer’s electric SUV officially entered production on Monday. GM is the first to bring back the Hummer nameplate on the 2022 Hummer EV SUT pickup. A slightly smaller sibling to this giant SUV, his 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is his reimagining of one of the most iconic American SUVs of the last century. Aldred said GM has more than 90,000 bookings for his Hummer pickups and his SUVs combined, with the numbers split about evenly.
Production began with the sold-out Edition 1, which had a starting price of $105,595 when pre-orders opened in 2021. It will be built alongside the Hummer pickup version at GM’s Factory Zero manufacturing facility in the Detroit-Hamtramck area. The SUV version is driven by two or three electric motors. The EV2 and EV2X in dual-motor configurations produce an estimated 625 horsepower.
The EV3X and Edition 1 are powered by three engines (one in the front and two in the rear) with 830 HP. Torque numbers are more complicated, with GMC claiming 7400 and 11,500 lb-ft respectively, but the actual numbers could be between 1000 and 1100 lb-ft. Edition 1 has an estimated range of over 300 miles. Last summer I managed 290 miles in the 75-mph highway range test with the pickup version.
Like pickups, SUVs have limited color options. All Edition 1 SUVs are painted in Moonshot Green matte. The list will expand slightly as standard model production ramps up in the second half of the year. GMC expects the production rate of the Hummer line to be significantly higher than last year, but plans to increase it gradually.
Aldred said production will start similarly slowly in the first half of the year, with production ramping up in the second half. Delivery of the Edition 1 SUV is planned for the end of the first quarter.
