Telangana EV owners benefited Rs 39 lakh from EV policy-rise in sales
The state government’s electric vehicle policy to promote the adoption of electric vehicles and to curb pollution levels in the State is bringing its great results.
According to the data acquired from the Road Transport Authority (RTA), there is an increase in the number of sales and registrations of EVs within the GHMC limits. Under the Telangana EV policy, the EV owners have been benefited incentives from worth Rs 39 lakh.
The State government had launched the Telangana Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy in October 2020 which has commenced in October 2020 and will last till 2030. Under this policy, there will be a 100 percent exemption of road tax and registration fee for the first two lakh electric two-wheelers purchased and registered in Telangana.
As per RTA data, at current there are nearly 12,000 electric vehicles in GHMC limits out of the majority are two-wheelers. Of them, 5,000 are battery-operated, hybrid diesel-electric, and 2,000 hybrid petrol-electric vehicles. 605 of the vehicles were sold and registered in February alone.
Before the launch of the EV policy in the State, there were only 25 electric vehicles in GHMC limits until 2017. Now the number has increased to 5,000. However the sales of vehicles got affected due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but still, 1,360 electric vehicles were sold.
Union ministry for heavy industries and public enterprises has decided to install 118 EV charging stations all over the city.
Telangana Ministers KT Rama Rao and Ajay Kumar have launched the EV policy which will be effective from 2020 to 2030 which means it is applicable for a period of 10 years from the date of notification of this policy. The government signed MoUs with five firms that are set to invest in the EV space. It aims to make Telangana a hub for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
