Tata Punch EV spying again: New details have been revealed

There will probably be more features on Punch EV than on Punch ICE

Overview

  • Prices will start at Rs 12 lakh for Tata Punch EV this year
  • Tigor EV-like battery packs are likely to be offered.
  • The claimed range is expected to be more than 300

Tata Motors is focused on the EV sector. It has a wide range of electric vehicles and plans to expand further with several upcoming models in the pipeline. And one of them is the Punch EV, which has been rediscovered in testing and newly released images reveal some interesting details.

First off, the Punch EV should look pretty similar to the ICE version, albeit with a few tweaks. These could include a redesigned front bumper and a connected light bar that spans the width of the dashboard. They could also include brand-new EV-specific alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera, and four-wheel disc brakes.

The Punch EV internals are very unique compared to the internal combustion engine of Punch. The image shows the flat-bottomed two-spoke steering wheel first seen on the Tata Curvv concept. The test mule also has paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, but it’s unclear if that will make production.

Other features such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen device, automatic climate control, and push-button start/stop could be shared with the punch. The safety package will include, among others, six airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.

The Punch EV will be Tata Motors’ first electric vehicle based on the ALFA platform. The platform is optimized for both EVs and internal combustion engines, and you can expect a flat floor and fewer than no compromises on boot capacity. As with the rest of the series, a dual battery option is likely to be offered as an option. The specified range is assumed to be greater than 300 km.

In terms of its cost (excluding showrooms), the Tata Punch EV is expected to cost approximately INR 1.2 million. Possibly later this year, it could be released on the market. As far as competition is concerned, the Citroen eC3 can be considered the closest rival.
