Tata Nexon EV 45 Real-World Range Tested: How It Performs on the Road
Tata Motors has introduced the Nexon EV 45, an upgraded version of its popular electric SUV, featuring a larger 45kWh battery pack. This enhancement has increased the ARAI-certified range to 489 kilometers, a 24-kilometer improvement over the previous 40.5kWh variant. Tata’s internal C75 cycle estimates a real-world range between 350 to 370 kilometers, suggesting that approximately 75% of users can expect to achieve this range under typical driving conditions.
Real-World Testing Insights
In comprehensive real-world tests conducted by automotive experts, the Nexon EV 45 demonstrated notable performance metrics:
- City Driving Efficiency: Achieved an average of 7.9 kilometers per kilowatt-hour (km/kWh).
- Highway Driving Efficiency: Recorded an average of 7.67 km/kWh.
- Combined Range: These efficiencies translate to a mixed driving range of approximately 350 kilometers on a full charge.
For context, the earlier 40.5kWh model delivered a real-world range of about 273 kilometers. This indicates a significant improvement of 77 kilometers in the updated version.
Testing Parameters and Conditions
The real-world range tests were meticulously structured to mirror typical usage scenarios:
- Driving Mode: The vehicle operated in Eco mode, which limits torque to approximately 70% of total output and caps the top speed, optimizing energy consumption.
- Regenerative Braking Settings: Set to Level 2 during city driving for enhanced energy recovery and adjusted to Level 1 (the least aggressive setting) on highways to suit higher-speed conditions.
- Climate Control: Maintained at 22 degrees Celsius in full-auto ‘Economy’ mode to reflect common user preferences.
- Additional Electrical Usage: Standard electrical features, including the audio system and ventilated front seats, were used as needed to replicate everyday driving experiences.
Additional Enhancements in the Nexon EV 45
- Increased Power Output: The electric motor now delivers an additional 5 horsepower, enhancing overall performance.
- Panoramic Sunroof: A new panoramic sunroof has been added, elevating the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal and providing a more open cabin experience.
- Reduced Charging Time: The charging duration from 10% to 80% has been reduced to 48 minutes, compared to the 56 minutes required for the 40.5kWh model.
These improvements contribute to a more powerful and convenient driving experience for users.
