Tata Motors Discontinues Nexon EV LR: Only Nexon EV MR & Nexon EV 45 kWh Remain

Tata Motors has officially phased out the Nexon EV Long Range (LR) variant with its 40 kWh battery pack. This move simplifies the Nexon EV lineup, leaving just the Nexon EV Medium Range (MR) and the Nexon EV 45 kWh version as the only available options for buyers.

What This Means for Buyers

The removal of the 40 kWh LR variant could impact potential customers who were looking for a mid-tier electric SUV option. Previously, the Nexon EV LR with its 40 kWh battery pack offered a middle ground between affordability and extended range. With its discontinuation, customers now have to choose between the MR variant, which comes with a 30 kWh battery, or the new top-of-the-line 45 kWh model.

Why Did Tata Motors Discontinue the 40 kWh LR?

Although Tata Motors has not provided an official reason for the discontinuation, several factors might have influenced this decision:

  • Product Streamlining: Offering three battery configurations could have added complexity to manufacturing and inventory management. Removing the 40 kWh variant simplifies the lineup.
  • Market Demand: The sales data may have indicated a stronger preference for the entry-level MR model or the premium 45 kWh version.
  • Range Optimization: The new 45 kWh battery pack offers a significantly longer range, potentially making the 40 kWh version redundant.

Current Nexon EV Lineup

  1. Nexon EV MR (30 kWh) – More affordable, suitable for city commutes with a practical range.
  2. Nexon EV 45 kWh – The new flagship variant, offering a longer driving range and better performance.

Final Thoughts

With the discontinuation of the Nexon EV LR, Tata Motors has refined its electric SUV lineup to cater to specific customer segments. While the absence of a mid-range option might disappoint some, the improved 45 kWh variant ensures that buyers looking for extended range have a solid alternative. It will be interesting to see how Tata’s future EV strategy evolves in response to market dynamics and competition in the growing electric vehicle sector.
