Jammu received 100 advanced E-buses with the latest features on a 12-year contract
Srinagar Smart City Limited, via TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K) Pvt Ltd, has acquired the first batch of ultra-EV electric buses manufactured by Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.
These electric buses are part of an order for the Jammu and Srinagar Smart City projects that included the supply, maintenance, and operation of 100 electric buses in Srinagar and 100 electric buses in Jammu for a period of 12 years. In Srinagar, the collaboration is part of an initiative by the Housing and Urban Development Department of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir to ensure a network of public transportation that is environmentally and economically sustainable.
With the latest features and powered by advanced battery systems, the zero-emission buses are designed and built on a new-generation architecture, which integrates the latest technology. In addition to providing a safe and comfortable commute within Srinagar, they are also designed to provide convenience and comfort within the city.
There were several officials from the Government of J&K, Municipal Corporation of Srinagar and Tata Motors who flagged off the fleet of e-buses, including Lieutenant General Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant General Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary J&K, Mayor I Junaid Azim Mattu, Principal Secretary H&UDD, J&K, and Prashant Goyal, Principal Secretary H&UDD.
A congratulatory message was provided by the Lieutenant Governor to the citizens of Srinagar on this occasion. A broader integrated sustainable urban mobility program for the city was part of an electric bus program that would change the paradigm of public transportation in the city.
“J&K has embarked on a new phase of urban development which will ease traffic congestion,” said Prashant Goyal, who addressed the flag-off event. In a 12-year partnership with Srinagar Smart City Ltd, Tata Motors will improve Srinagar’s last-mile passenger transportation system.”
In a statement made by Athar Aamir Khan, CEO of Srinagar Smart City Ltd, the city’s integrated Sustainable Urban Mobility Project includes the Srinagar Electric Bus Project. As this is the first major transformation of public transportation in Srinagar, this will relieve congestion, and allow citizens to have access to reliable, affordable, and comfortable transportation.
The chairman of TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K) Pvt Ltd, Mr. Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, stated that, at a time when sustainable public transportation is a necessity, Tata Motors has been selected to provide a revolutionary solution for commuters in Srinagar. With the company’s electric buses, people can travel comfortably and safely while also redefining their travel experience. Furthermore, they stated that they are not simply supplying electric buses; they are promoting a shared vision of providing emission-free, noiseless, and environmentally friendly transportation solutions in harmony with the serene and pristine environment of the region. This milestone in their ongoing commitment to safer, smarter, and greener mobility solutions will play a significant role in shaping the future of public transportation in Jammu & Kashmir.
With over 9.6 crore km clocked so far, Tata Motors’ electric buses have logged more than 1,000 km across multiple cities in India, with an overall uptime of 95%. In terms of urban city commuting, the Tata Ultra EV sets new benchmarks. In a media release, the company said that this state-of-the-art vehicle’s electric drivetrain optimizes energy consumption, resulting in lower energy consumption and operational costs.
