Speakerless 3D audio system for EVs
teased at CES 2020
Sennheiser, an audio technology provider partnered with automotive tech company Continental to develop a speakerless 3D audio system for future electric vehicles. This sound system is based on Sennheiser’s existing Ambero 3D audio technology which blends with Continental’s Ac2ated system. Combined they created a 3D immersive audio system.
This sound system will not have any visible speakers and the company says that there will be specially developed actuators which replace the conventional speakers which are placed within the vehicle interior.

With the use of this technology car makers can decrease the weight of a sound system by 75-90 per cent. This will help future electric vehicles to save space and weight. As space and weight is much concern in electric vehicles.

Andreas Sennheiser, the co-CEO of Sennheiser, said, “By integrating AMBEO Mobility with Continental’s Ac2ated Sound system, the in-car sound experience becomes completely immersive and natural, opening new audio perspectives and realities.”
In any vehicle, the vehicle’s weight and space matters a lot especially when it is a car. In an electric vehicle, most of the weight is added by their components such as a battery, motor controllers, inverters, onboard chargers, etc. If these speakerless 3D audio system technology used in electric vehicles than it can contribute to reducing some weight and space in the vehicle.
