SEA Electric got massive order for 1,150 new electric trucks
SEA Electric an Australian-founded and California-based Global transport innovator company has received a massive order for 1,150 electric trucks which is said to be the largest in its history. The Hino M5 EVs are equipped with Sea Electric patented electric truck powertrains that will deliver to GATR EVs that operates in Iowa and Minnesota in the US as part of GATR Truck Centers.
This order comes when recently one of its Hino M5 EVs was displayed at a truck expo in California which has a 120a power system that suits 6-8 tonne trucks said SEA Electric. It is specified for truck platforms with a GVWR of 13,000lbs to 19,500lbs (Class 3-5). The package features a 1,106lb-ft electric motor in combination with a 138 kWh battery pack.
According to SEA’s VP of sales and marketing Nick Casas this order is the company’s first order above 1,000 units. Importantly, it has been ordered by a company that operates in a state that does not offer purchase incentives for switching to electric zero-emissions transport.
“This is our first four-digit order, and it comes in a non-incentive state, which proves that commercial EV solutions can expand in areas with no incentives, while all corners of the market are seeking premium EV solutions,” said Casas in a statement.
“This deal is the culmination of years of research, development and growth, and proves that SEA Electric is on track to be number one when it comes to electrifying fleets across the world,” said Mike Menyhart, SEA Electric President-Americas and Chief Strategy Officer.
“The market is looking for a proven EV solution, and with SEA Electric, we bring that to the industry technology which has been verified with millions of miles of real-world use.
“Furthermore, this announcement reaffirms our commitment to continue our rapid expansion within the North American market, and sets the scene for an exciting 2022.”
The SEA Electric offers pure-electric systems that are adaptable to most OEM glider chassis platforms, from Class 3 to Class 8. GATR will use the trucks in its partnership with Merchants Fleet, a logistics solutions company that operates overall North America and had committed to electrifying transportation. SEA Electric will supply its first 40 trucks in huge order by the end of 2021 and the remaining will be delivered in 2022.
