Hyderabad based E-Trio Automobiles got a huge opportunity to retrofitting. The company will first retrofit (converts the conventional vehicles into electric) the Alto and Wagon R.

Retrofitting Approval For Tata Indica, Hyundai Santro, Mahindra Verito and Maruti Ritz
The company has applied for the approvals of retrofitting of the Tata Indica, Hyundai Santro, Mahindra Verito and Maruti Ritz which gets approved until two-three months the company hopes.
E-Trio’s Founder Sathya Yalamanchili have seen China and their adoption of EVs technology and wants to bring the technology in India so that the electric vehicles can be easily purchased as it is made affordable and usable.
Retrofitting EVs By Hyderabad E-Trio Automobiles Founder Says
“I built several prototypes of electric cars and was keen to bring a commercial car into the Indian market. With the help of professors in China and Stanford (US), I started working on a commercial model. We have now rolled out our first batch of vehicles from our Bolaram unit,” said the E-Trio founder Sathya Yalamanchili.

The company’s facility is at Bolaram which is of an area of 60,000 sq ft which will be enough to make 1,000 cars every month.
Retrofitting Takes 24-36 Hours
Converting a pure petrol or diesel car normally takes around 24-36 hours. All the internal combustion parts will be changed like engine, radiator, gearbox, and silencer.
Retrofitting Costs up to Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh
The cost for retrofitting is up to Rs 3 lakh going up to Rs 5 lakh. Most suitable for the cab drivers and cab aggregators, the vehicles will cost 90 paise per km in terms of electricity used.
Specifications of Converted Vehicles – Electric Alto and Electric Wagon R
Electric Alto can have a range of 150km and electric Wagon will have 180km on a full charge which may be increased in the future.
For safety issues, the speed is limited to 80 km per hour. Batteries can be added more depending on the customers desired range. For charging these EVs regular wall sockets at home can be used.
