Piaggio Vehicles partners City Link to expand its EV fleet

Piaggio Vehicles Pvt.Ltd India’s leading manufacturer of small commercial vehicles has partnered with the City Link Portal Pvt.Ltd is a leading technology-enabled within city logistics start-up for the expansion of its electric vehicles business.

Piaggio is expanding its electric vehicles business network by adding more than 50 dealers all over India last year. The City Link is rapidly evolving in the EV last-mile space and making quick strides in its sizeable EV portfolio.

The City Link launched its “Think Green Think EV” initiative and entered into the EV segment the company said in a statement.

Mr Saju Nair, EVP-CV Business, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. said, “Piaggio is proud to contribute to City Link’s Think Green Think EV initiative by providing Ape’ Electrik range of vehicles. Piaggio Ape, with over 30 lac satisfied customers and growing, now is all set to amplify the EV transition in India with its wide range of product range suitable for varied needs of customers and with different types of charging solutions i.e. Swappable as well as fixed battery. We are confident that our technology will enable City Link in providing sustainable, efficient & lower operating cost goods delivery solution to its customers.”

Mr Puneet Prakash, Cofounder and CEO of City Link said “Having resolved to grow responsibly and continue to bring value to all our customers, vendor partners and drivers, this association with Piaggio holds immense value for us. Though we had projected a number of 100 EVs at launch, with Piaggio we are confident to increase our EV range multi-fold within this financial year itself. City Link is convinced that besides being environment friendly, EVs are expected to drive ROI and bring down delivery costs when compared to existing alternatives”.

In October the company had announced that it has marked its footsteps in Bangalore with its experience centre. It is reaching out to every state with its electric vehicles network. The company inaugurated its EV experience centre Mobility Motors in Bangalore. The dealership is inaugurated by B Sriramlu, Minister of Transport Department and Tribal Welfare, Karnataka.

This new dealership will cater a platform for Piaggio’s newly launched FX range (fixed battery) of EVs in both cargo and passenger versions for its Bangalore customers.

In September it had also partnered with EV fleet operator MoEVing for the induction of electric vehicles. The MoEVing aims to add 500 Piaggio Ape’ E-Xtra FX to their existing fleet by 2022.

The partnership will help to increase the adoption of electric three-wheelers in India in the last mile transportation segment through the integrated approach of demand aggregation, supply optimisation and connected charging infrastructure. Saju Nair, Executive vice president for CV Business, Piaggio Vehicles, said that with this partnership, the MoEVing will further amplify the efforts to create affordable and sustainable last-mile connectivity.
