Odisha govt announces 100% tax exemption, registration fee waiver for EV
The Odisha government has announced a 100% exemption of motor vehicle tax and registration fees for electric vehicles in the state to encourage the growth and faster adoption of electric vehicles.
As per the notification, the State Government announced a 100% exemption on motor vehicles taxes and registration fees for battery-operated vehicles under the Odisha Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, which is applicable till 2025. Transport Minister Padmanav Behera earlier said that the Transport department has submitted a proposal to the government for allowing subsidy on e-vehicles to attract customers.
The state government has proposed to extend a slew of incentives for the buyers, manufacturers, batteries and charging stations of electric vehicles under the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy.
In August, the Odisha government had approved the electric vehicles policy in the State to have cleaner vehicles plying on roads. The State Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had approved the Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021. It aims to have 20 per cent electric vehicles on road by 2025.
Under the policy, the buyers will get a 15% subsidy of up to Rs 5,000 on the purchase of two-wheelers while electric three-wheelers buyers can avail of a 15% subsidy worth up to Rs 12,000. For a four-wheelers purchase, it is offering a 15% subsidy worth up to Rs 1,00,000.
The state government employees will also be able to avail of 100% interest-free loans on the purchase of electric vehicles on loan. The policy also directs municipal bodies to offer subsidised parking to electric vehicles.
