Maruti Suzuki’s First Electric Vehicle, e-VITARA, Receives CMVR Compliance Certificate from ARAI

New Delhi, May 30, 2025 — In a major step towards its electric mobility goals, Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced that it has obtained the CMVR Compliance Certificate for its first all-electric vehicle, the e-VITARA, from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
This certification under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) marks a critical milestone, officially authorizing the e-VITARA for commercial production and road use in India. The ARAI certification ensures that the vehicle meets all regulatory, safety, and emission norms as mandated by the Indian government.
The e-VITARA is expected to be a game-changer in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market, bringing the trusted legacy of Maruti Suzuki into the fast-growing EV segment. Based on the popular VITARA platform, the electric version is likely to feature a high-capacity lithium-ion battery, fast charging capabilities, and a driving range tailored to suit both urban and semi-urban environments.
Speaking on the development, a senior company official said, “The CMVR certification is a testament to Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to quality, safety, and sustainable mobility. The e-VITARA has been engineered with advanced EV technology and tested rigorously to meet ARAI’s stringent standards.”
The company is expected to unveil the e-VITARA officially later this year, with launch plans reportedly set for early 2026. Maruti Suzuki, in collaboration with its parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation, is also investing heavily in EV infrastructure, including battery manufacturing and charging networks, to support the growing EV ecosystem in India.
With this development, Maruti Suzuki joins the ranks of Indian manufacturers ready to contribute to the country’s electric vehicle revolution, aligning with the government’s vision of achieving 30% EV penetration by 2030.
