Mahindra & Mahindra plans to launch a cab aggregator for corporates called Alyte to expand its electric vehicles fleet for taxi services. The company will significantly push the cab aggregator and shared mobility services segment.

“We are introducing a nationwide brand around our mobility service called Alyte from this quarter,” Mahindra Logistics CEO Rampraveen Swaminathan told ET in an interview.
Mahindra owns 55 per cent in Alyte which is under Mahindra Logistics, Meru Cabs. The company’s electric vehicle cab service Glyd and First choice, its used car business will be housed under the new vertical called mobility services.

The Alyte will put Mahindra into direct competition with Ola and uber which has a significant presence in the corporate segment.

Alyte will be a business-to-business application and work through corporate tie-ups and not a public business-to-customer application such as Uber and Ola.

Mahindra is also working on a scheme by which it can help the drivers to buy the vehicles by assisting them in getting good deals from automakers as well as vehicle financers.

It also plans to invest in electric vehicles for Alyte. At present it has leased fleet of 100 vehicles which it is planning to increase by five times by March 2021, he said, the MNC has started to treat environmental sustainability as a priority.

The Uber plans to increase its electric vehicles fleet to fourfolds in India by the end of 2020. Now it has more than 350 electric vehicles and plans to expand that to 1,500 by the end of the year.

The mobility platforms such as Ola’s electric arm, Bounce, Vogo, Yulu and the manufacturers such as Bajaj, Hero and Tata Motors are strengthening their electric mobility. Ola Electric is also running pilot electric mobility projects in Gurgaon, Bengaluru and Nagpur.
