Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd to focus more on electric three-wheelers. The company wants to shift its focus from electric cars to electric three-wheelers as India’s top electric vehicle manufacturer by volume and seeks to improve the viability if its e-mobility business.

The company has set targets of selling 10,000 electric three-wheelers each month and is in talks with the state governments and to sell it as private entities to promote the sales of eco-friendly vehicles said by the people aware of the plans.

“Development of electric cars requires a lot of investment and the competition is very stiff in a very limited space. So, it is prudent of M&M to have changed its strategy,” said one of the two people above mentioned.

“There is still no market for electric cars but in the next three to four years there will certainly be one for electric three-wheelers and two-wheelers”.

Initially, the company was focusing on producing electric cars but due to lack of charging infrastructure and high cost of vehicles made the customers think so much to opt for an electric vehicle which results in the lower of the sales mostly in the electric cars. This reason only made the EV maker shift its focus to electric three-wheelers which seems to be more possible business options.

To fight Covid-19 Mahindra created ventilators 

To fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic, Mahindra company decided to make ventilators which play an important role during these unprecedented times. The teams of Mahindra from Igatpuri and Mumbai plants have decided to participate for the cause. They have prepared the first ventilator prototype within 48 hours.

After its production, the company started testing it and approached the final stage to finish its production. Dr Pawan K Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra twitted appreciating the team efforts to make an in-house affordable respiratory device.

Company provided free emergency cab services 

The Mahindra Logistics Ltd (MLL) launched an Alyte free emergency cab services to provide support in the fight against coronavirus. The automaker now has introduced free emergency cab services for COVID-19 pandemic patients.

It plans to launch a cab aggregator for corporates called Alyte to expand its electric vehicles fleet for taxi services. The company will significantly push the cab aggregator and shared mobility services segment.

This cab service is also provided to the single mothers, disabled individuals, and senior citizens to help them with their important things such as shopping essential and medication, visits to banks, post offices and hospitals.




These services are also available to doctors and nurses. The fleet includes electric vehicles as well such as Mahindra e-Verito. These cab services have been started in Hyderbad and will operate 24*7 in close collaboration with Rachakonda Commissionerate, Hyderabad.

Mahindra unveiled Treo 2.0 electric three-wheeler with solar roof

Mahindra unveiled its Mahindra Treo 2.0 electric three-wheeler with solar roof in Auto Expo 2020. The company has unveiled its next-generation Treo electric three-wheeler named as Treo 2.0. The Treo is completely made in house expect the batteries. Mahindra unveiled its Treo 2.0 electric 3 wheeler.

The new Treo got new doors nad seats for better comfort and most importantly Mahindra has unveiled its dedicated charger for the vehicle at Auto Expo 2020. The charges will be installed across the country and the brand aims to set up 800 of these August this year during the initial stage.

High-performance electric mobility by Mahindra Racing & Automobili Pininfarina joint venture 

Recently, the Mahindra Racing and Automobili Pininfarina announced that they will jointly develop new technologies for high-performance electric mobility. Both the companies will collaborate on the transfer of motorsport principles and technologies from the race track to the road.




The Mahindra owned Automobili Pininfarina was officially launched in April 2018 at the Rome E-Prix. Both the companies will share the technology which will include the programmes and components such as simulation and energy use, composites, powertrain, and cooling systems.

They will also be sharing resources in areas such as wind tunnel work, suppliers and personnel, including the Mahindra Racing Formula E race drivers.




Last year, Mahindra & Mahindra and Lohia witnessed the bookings of the lithium-ion electric passenger three-wheelers (e-auto). The electric three-wheelers become popular for their cheaper operating cost and the super savings.

According to the reports of Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV), the lobby body for electric vehicles, there is 21 per cent increase in the growth of the sales of electric three-wheeler in the year 2018-19 to 630,000 as against 520,000 sold in 2017-2018. Whereas the sales of petrol, diesel and CNG-powered passenger three-wheelers increased by just 10.6 per cent to 572,400 units in 2018 when compared to 517,400 units sold in 2017-18.
