Maharashtra govt proposes Rs 9,453 Cr for EV charging stations
The government of Maharashtra has planned an outlay of Rs 9,453 crore for the installation of mega electric vehicle charging centres on expressways that are connecting the state capital Mumbai.
The Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar said during the Maharashtra Budget 2021-22 in the Maharashtra Assembly that “Mega electric vehicle charging centres will be started on Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg, Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Mumbai-Nashik Expressway. For the year 2021-22, an outlay of Rs 9,453 crore is proposed to the energy department for scheme expenditure”.
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is already having some charging stations which is operated by private companies. The Mumbai-Nashik Expressway needs to get its first charging station and the Samruddhi Expressway is under constructions.
An outlay of Rs 1,400 crore for 2021-22 has also planned by the State government to replace old diesel-powered buses of the State Transport Corporation with eco-friendly CNG and electric buses.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has around 17,773 buses. Out of that many runs by the city municipal corporation have already shifted to electric vehicles.
He also proposed bicycles tracks be built on highways in Mumbai. In 2018 the State government had declared its electric vehicles policy to curb the emissions in India.
Under this scheme the first 100,000 electric vehicles registered in the state to get a subsidy of up to Rs 100,000 on electric cars and Rs 5,000 on electric two-wheelers and Rs 12,000 on electric three-wheelers. This will be revised again said Pawar.
