Kia Launches Its First Modular Electric Van, the PV5

Kia has officially unveiled its first modular electric van, the PV5, at the 2025 Kia EV Day in Tarragona, Spain. This mid-sized Car Derived Van (CDV) is the first model under Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) global business strategy, aiming to revolutionize space and mobility with its innovative modular design.

Versatile Configurations

The PV5 is built on Kia’s ‘E-GMP.S’ skateboard platform, offering multiple body styles and interior layouts to cater to a variety of needs. The initial lineup includes:

  • Cargo – Designed for commercial use with ample storage space.
  • Passenger – A people-mover variant for comfortable travel.
  • Chassis Cab – A flexible option for custom-built vehicles.
  • Light Camper – A specialized version for outdoor enthusiasts.
  • Prime & Open Bed – Luxury passenger variants with premium features.
  • Crew – A Europe-exclusive model designed for work crews.

Performance and Range

The PV5 comes with two battery options, providing a maximum range of nearly 250 miles on a single charge. It supports fast charging, minimizing downtime for users and making it a practical choice for businesses and individuals alike.

Advanced Interior and Technology

Inside, the PV5 is equipped with:

  • A 12.9-inch touchscreen display with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • An infotainment system based on the Android Automotive Operating System.
  • Flexible seating and cargo configurations for enhanced usability.

These features make the PV5 suitable for both commercial and personal use.

Market Launch and Pricing

Kia plans to start mass production of the PV5 in July 2025, with launches in South Korea and Europe in the second half of the year. The starting price is expected to be under £30,000, making it a competitive choice in the electric van market.

Conclusion

With the launch of the PV5, Kia is aiming to lead the electric van segment by offering a versatile, modular vehicle that meets the diverse needs of users. This innovative model marks a significant step in Kia’s electrification strategy, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility.
