In China, Kia’s EV5 Compact Electric SUV Debuts

In the near future, Kia plans to go electric in a big way

The EV5 is part of a larger policy that Kia plans to implement over the next few years in terms of introducing electric vehicles to their lineup. The Korean automaker has just introduced the China-made Kia EV5, which is an all-electric replacement for the Kia Sportage. The small electric SUV is expected to debut in China later this year before being introduced in other markets.

In order to achieve a future sustainable future, Kia has introduced their new all-electric SUV, the EV5. It is based on the same E-CMP architecture that is exclusive to electric vehicles and also underpins the Kia EV6. Kia may introduce EV5 in India but not before 2025

In terms of the design of the EV5, it looks almost the same as the concept version. In addition, the Kia EV5 is heavily influenced by the Kia EV9, a large premium electric vehicle that was also displayed at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. The production Kia EV5 gets futuristic 21-inch wheels, while the air intakes integrated into the sharp LED headlights have been replaced with projector lamps. The car’s mirrors are larger and the bumpers receive minor changes compared to the concept. Overall, the Kia EV5 looks like the little sister of the flagship EV9. The “tiger face” treatment on the front of the small tram makes it appear more aggressive.

In terms of dimensions, the Kia EV5 has a length of 4,615 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. This makes the electric car similar to the Kia Sportage and 135mm shorter than the Tesla Model Y.

The Chinese version of the Kia EV5 will be equipped with a single electric motor capable of generating a maximum capacity of 212PS and a maximum torque of 310Nm. There will be a transmission of power to the front wheel. The SUV will draw power from a Blade lithium iron phosphate battery sourced from BYD. However, battery capacity and autonomy are yet to be revealed. Kia says the specifications of the EV5 will vary by region, meaning there will be different specifications for each model specific to the global market.
