In 2033, Audi plans to become a purely electric company by focusing on electric and petrol vehicles
German luxury carmaker Audi will launch the Q8 e-tron electric SUV in India next month as part of its efforts to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in the country. Q8 e-tron SUV and Q8 e-tron Sportback will be launched on August 18, offering 114kW batteries to offer more range than the existing e-tron with 95kW batteries.
Balbir Singh Dhillon, Audi India Head, told PTI that the company was consolidating its (electric vehicle) product portfolio and bringing it to the Indian market.
He says whatever makes a positive business case, “We are looking forward to bringing the Q8 e-tron to India, and we are looking forward to enhancing Audi’s electric vehicle portfolio with the latest models.”
Dhillon stressed the importance of Indian markets by saying that the Q8 e-tron would be launched in India at the same time as it will be launched globally.
This vehicle will help broaden the range of our electric vehicles in India, so we look forward to adding it to our EV lineup,” he said. Five electric vehicles are currently available from Audi India: the e-tron 50, e-tron 55, e-tron Sportback 55, e-tron GT, and RS e-tron GT.
In addition to the Q8 e-tron, one of their top-end models will be the Q8 e-tron, which he said would be imported as a finished product.
Audi has decided to focus on petrol and electric vehicles as part of its global strategy to become a purely electric car company by 2033.
“We have the same focus. With the Q8 e-tron, we are beginning our journey towards the next generation of (electric) vehicles.” “More electric vehicles will be introduced in India in the next few years,” Dhillon said.
The executive said that the luxury segment in India is seeing a rise in Audi’s electric vehicles. However, these vehicles are priced at 1.5 million rupees, catering to a very narrow segment of customers.
“Electric vehicles are still a very small percentage of what we sell, but they are on the rise and will continue to grow. Therefore, we continue to focus on making e-tron a stronger brand in India.”
In metropolitan areas and B and C category cities, electric vehicles, including the e-tron, have been very well received, and electric vehicles have found a market. We have positive feedback,” he said. “We have received positive feedback from customers of all backgrounds, which has increased sales volume. During the first half of 2023, Audi India recorded 3,474 retail sales, a 97% increase over the previous year. The company sold 4,187 units in 2022, up 27.14 % from 2021.
