Honda Vietnam Launches First Locally-Made Electric Scooter: ICON e

In a major milestone for the country’s electric vehicle industry, Honda Vietnam has officially launched the ICON e: — its first electric scooter manufactured locally in Vinh Phuc province. This strategic move marks Honda’s entry into Vietnam’s rapidly evolving electric mobility sector, further strengthening its dominant presence in the two-wheeler market.

Compact Design, Practical Performance

The ICON e: is powered by a 1.5kW ternary lithium-ion battery, offering a practical range of approximately 50 kilometers per charge. With a full recharge time of 7.5 hours, it’s well-suited for daily urban commutes. The battery — weighing just 1.3 kg — can be conveniently charged either onboard or independently, providing flexibility and ease of use for riders with limited access to charging stations.

Accessible Pricing

Priced at around $1,130 (excluding the battery), the ICON e: aims to be an affordable option for consumers transitioning from traditional gas-powered motorbikes to cleaner alternatives. The pricing strategy also makes the ICON e: competitive in Vietnam’s growing EV market, where affordability is a key driver of adoption.

Manufactured in Vietnam

Produced at Honda’s advanced manufacturing facility in Vinh Phuc, the ICON e: represents a new phase of local innovation and production. By manufacturing domestically, Honda is not only reducing costs but also contributing to Vietnam’s industrial development and green technology adoption.

A Strategic Move in a Dominant Market

Honda currently commands a 70–80% market share in Vietnam’s motorbike segment. The launch of the ICON e: underlines the company’s intention to maintain its leadership amid a global shift towards electric mobility. It also reflects Honda’s broader vision of sustainable transportation, aligning with environmental policies and consumer trends favoring eco-friendly alternatives.
