EVs new sales increased by 26% in global automotive market
Electric vehicles sales are rapidly growing day by day, in the first half of 2021 the sales have increased by 26% with 2.6 million units representing 26% of new sales in the global automotive market. Read further to know more about EVs new sales increased by 26%.
The topmost 3 auto markets are China, the US, and Europe and among them, China is the world’s top EV market with 1.1 million vehicles sold in the first half which means 12% of sales. Whereas In US the sales of electric vehicles were only 250,000 units,3% of sales. In terms of EV sales and infrastructure, the best-performing states in 2020 were California, New York and Florida.
EVs sales double in Korea
According to market data, in South Korea over 71,000 units of electric vehicles have been sold which is double when compared to last year. As per the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, the sales of EVs till September is 71,006 units which are an increase, when compared to the 36,268 units sold last year.
Electric vehicles took over 5.5% of the total number of new cars sold in Korea. It is the second-highest after China’s 9.4% and the United States’ 2.3%.
World’s top EV auto companies
World’s top EV auto companies, such as Tesla is the number 1 in the top list and SAIC Motor comes on 2nd number. Volkswagen stands in 3rd place, whereas BYD and Hyundai Motor Group are on 4th and the 5th in the top list.
Passenger electric vehicle sales
Despite the disruption caused by Covid-19, the market was able to grow. Passenger electric vehicle sales are set to jump over 80 per cent in 2021 to 5.6 million units. Zero-Emission Vehicles Factbook, in the first half of 2021, the sales of passenger electric vehicles which includes battery-electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles were 140 per cent higher than the same period in 2019, which is 7% of global passenger vehicle sales. In 2019 it was 2.6%.
Global fleet of passenger electric and fuel cell vehicles
The total global fleet of passenger electric and fuel cell vehicles is around 13 million, of which 8.5 million are pure electric vehicles. In the first half of 2021, the global fleet of zero-emission buses has increased by 22 per cent since 2019.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has raised its 2030 battery electric vehicle fleet forecast by seven per cent since 2019, while the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has raised its 2040 estimate for the global electric and fuel cell vehicle fleet by 11 per cent.

The SNE Research says that battery providers are also ranked highly for the supply volume in the global market. LG Energy Solutions, SK Innovation are some of the leading companies. The global electric car parts market was valued at $303.3 billion in 2020, and it is anticipated to grow to over $400 billion by 2024.
