Electric BMW i5 Zooms into India, Priced at ₹ 1.20 Crore

The wait is over for Indian luxury electric car enthusiasts! BMW has launched the much-anticipated electric i5 in India, the electric avatar of the popular 5 Series sedan. The i5 arrives in India with a starting price of ₹ 1.20 crore (ex-showroom).

Top-of-the-Line Power

Currently, BMW is offering the i5 only in the top-spec M60 xDrive variant, which is imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). This high-performance version packs a punch with an 83.9 kWh battery pack (usable capacity of 81.2 kWh) that promises a driving range of up to 516 km on a single charge (WLTP cycle). The electric motors churn out a combined output of 601 horsepower and a staggering 795 Nm of torque, propelling the i5 from 0 to 100 kmph in a mere 3.8 seconds.

Luxury Adorned

The BMW i5 M60 xDrive boasts of a luxurious and tech-laden interior. The driver gets a futuristic experience with a freestanding dual-display setup featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a massive 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The cabin is adorned with vegan leather upholstery and carbon fiber trim, offering a sophisticated and sustainable feel. For a comfortable ride, the i5 M60 xDrive comes with features like active seat ventilation, a panoramic glass roof, and a heads-up display. Safety is also a priority, with the car equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

A New Chapter in Electric Luxury

The BMW i5’s arrival marks a significant step forward for electric luxury cars in India. With its powerful performance, impressive range, and luxurious features, the i5 is sure to find favor among discerning buyers. While it doesn’t have a direct competitor yet, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan is expected to challenge the i5’s dominance in the Indian electric luxury car segment.
