EESL to install 75 EV Charging stations in Delhi
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture under the Ministry of Power, Government of India has signed a MoU with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to establish infrastructure for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in SDMC area over a 10-year period.
According to the terms phrased in the MoU, SDMC and EESL shall jointly work to accelerate the adoption of e-mobility in Delhi by installing around 75 public charging stations in the SDMC area. This initiative is a part of the Government’s vision to reduce carbon footprints.
EESL is aiming to achieve the target of 175 GW renewable energy capacity by 2022 and having 40 percent as Renewable Energy capacity in the total installed energy capacity by 2030.
Installation of public charging stations (PCS) is expected to help in achieving considerable progress in the creation of a sustainable EV ecosystem in the states across India. It’s a great step by SDMC and EESL to come together for utilizing synergies and opportunities in this broader effort.
The procurement of these charging units and related infrastructure shall be taken care by EESL along with the operation & maintenance of public charging infrastructure with the help of qualified manpower, whereas SDMC will be responsible for providing space for installing these charging infrastructures in its area.
In the first phase, within 6 months from the effective date, these EV charging station will be installed in 18 select locations through joint survey by both parties.
The total number of finalized locations will be 75, which may increase or decrease and include multi-level parking locations in Delhi as well.
with installation of public charging stations, the range anxiety among residents will get reduced, which would help in increasing the adoption of EVs in the city and to meet the state level targets of increasing EV adoption.
For charging EVs, 300 AC & 170 DC chargers have been commissioned so far. Besides this, 65 public charging stations have also been installed in the NDMC area. EESL has also signed agreements with various PSUs and Government departments, including the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana.
