During the monsoon, be sure to take care of your electric 2W

From Gurusharan Dhillon, some tips for electric 2 wheelers

With monsoons rapidly advancing in various parts of India and flooding of roads becoming an unavoidable reality, it is an excellent opportunity to understand water safety assessment. This is especially relevant when it comes to electric two-wheelers. So in this article, we present some tips for electric two-wheeler users on how to take care of their travel buddies during the monsoon. So, here are the words of Gurusharan Dhillon, director of e-mobility at Customized Energy Solutions, who shares guidelines for caring for electric two-wheelers during the monsoon season.

The mounting position of an electric scooter’s motor can be as follows:

Mounted motors or mid-drive motors are located approximately 150-160 mm above the ground when mounted on the wheel hub. The mid-drive motor position is slightly higher, ranging from 200mm to 210mm depending on the vehicle. It should also be remembered that e-bikes have an advantage over e-scooters due to their increased ground clearance due to their larger diameter wheels.

Water ingress into the motor’s electric motor housing can seriously affect the vehicle’s entire power system. This can cause short circuits and permanent damage to the motor, windings, and control unit, as well as bearing corrosion. A battery mounted on an electric scooter’s floorboard can also be affected by water ingress. In addition, other aspects such as information display units, sensors, controllers, and other sensitive components should also be fully considered.

During vehicle development, OEMs subject vehicles to extremely rigorous test conditions to prove product functionality in all environments. This includes extreme temperatures, vibration, water immersion, shock, and all types of on-road and off-road conditions. To do. With this conviction in mind, let’s look at what an intrusion protection code means, how it’s measured, and the level of intrusion protection (IP) that can secure an electric two-wheeler.

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) defines degrees of dust and water resistance according to IEC 60529.  An Electric two-wheeler is equipped with critical electrical components that comply with IP65 and higher Rated (AIS-156 regulations mandate IPX7 batteries). This information about electrical 2W intrusion protection and rigorous development and testing protocols is encouraging. This helps address some concerns related to using his 2W electrical device in the rain.

Answers to some significant questions regarding your electric 2 Wheeler during the monsoon are as follows:

  • Parking:

We recommend parking your Electric 2W on a flat, covered, dry surface when it rains. However, if that is not possible, cover the electric stouter with a high-quality waterproof cover to protect your vehicle.

  • Charging:

Like the vehicle, the charger supports the all-weather operation. After the system confirms safety and the current flows, a built-in sensor establishes a connection between the charger and the vehicle. The loading process is usually interrupted when the system detects a problem.

Make sure the charging gun and charging socket are dry before charging your vehicle in the rain. However, this is not a common practice and should only be done in exceptional cases.

  • Driving:

For safety reasons, it is not recommended to drive the ZW in heavy rain. But even in light rain or drizzle, electric scooters are no-brainers. In the event of unexpected heavy rain, it is advisable to find shelter as soon as possible. This is to protect yourself and your vehicle from the rain.

  • Water logging:

The 2W electric model has undergone rigorous water resistance testing. It is safe to travel on normal routes through flooded areas. However, when you arrive at your destination, park your car in a flat, covered, dry area to allow water to drain.

Final note:

Please take this information as an advisory. If you have specific questions or need further instructions, we recommend checking out the OLM User Manual or getting in touch. Wishing you a safe drive in all four seasons.
