Delhi EV Policy 2.0: Women to Get ₹36,000 Subsidy on Electric Scooters

The Delhi government is set to introduce a substantial incentive under its upcoming Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0, offering a subsidy of up to ₹36,000 for women purchasing electric two-wheelers. This initiative aims to promote female participation in the adoption of eco-friendly transportation.

Key Highlights of the Proposed Subsidy

  • Subsidy Amount: Eligible women buyers can receive a subsidy of up to ₹36,000 on electric two-wheelers.

  • Eligibility Criteria: The subsidy is proposed for the first 10,000 women applicants who possess a valid driving license.

  • Objective: This move is designed to encourage more women to transition to electric vehicles, thereby contributing to the reduction of vehicular emissions in Delhi.

Broader Goals of Delhi EV Policy 2.0

The forthcoming policy outlines ambitious targets, including:

  • Electric Vehicle Penetration: Achieving 95% EV penetration in Delhi by 2027.

  • Employment Generation: Creating approximately 20,000 jobs in the electric mobility sector.

These goals reflect the government’s commitment to sustainable transportation and economic growth.

Current Status and Implementation

As of now, the policy is in its draft stage and awaiting final approval. Once enacted, it will replace the previous EV policy, which expired in December 2023. The new policy is expected to be valid until March 31, 2030, providing a long-term framework for electric mobility in the capital.

Additional Incentives

In addition to the proposed subsidy for women, the policy may include:

  • Per kWh Incentive: A purchase incentive of ₹12,000 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery capacity, up to a maximum of ₹36,000.

  • First-Come, First-Served Basis: The subsidies are likely to be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, emphasizing the importance of early application.

These measures aim to make electric two-wheelers more accessible and affordable, particularly for women, thereby fostering greater inclusivity in the EV sector.
