Ather Energy Hosts ByteBattles 2.0 to Boost Electric Two-Wheeler Safety

Ather Energy, a pioneer in the electric two-wheeler segment in India, recently concluded the second edition of its nationwide firmware development challenge—ByteBattles 2.0—at its Bengaluru headquarters. This 30-hour hackathon brought together some of the brightest minds in embedded systems and firmware engineering, all working towards one common goal: enhancing safety in electric two-wheelers.

The event witnessed an overwhelming response with over 700 participants, including engineers, developers, and students from across the country. The hackathon challenged participants to design and implement innovative safety solutions using the Ather Software Development Kit (ASDK), targeting core areas such as motor control, battery protection, and regenerative braking.

From a competitive pool of 179 registered teams, only 12 finalists were selected to compete in the final round. These teams showcased impressive innovations ranging from obstacle detection systems to terrain analysis tools, demonstrating how software can meaningfully improve vehicle safety.

Sponsored by industry giants including Qualcomm, Elektrobit, NXP, and Infineon, ByteBattles 2.0 not only provided a platform for innovation but also offered participants access to cutting-edge technologies and tools. The total prize pool of ₹2,00,000 served as an added incentive for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in electric mobility.

Speaking at the event, Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and CTO of Ather Energy, highlighted the growing role of software in vehicle safety. “Software innovation is the future of mobility. Hands-on experimentation, like what we see at ByteBattles, is crucial for pushing the envelope in vehicle firmware development,” he said.

ByteBattles 2.0 marks a significant step in Ather’s ongoing commitment to fostering collaboration, nurturing talent, and advancing the future of safe and intelligent electric vehicles in India. As the electric mobility revolution accelerates, initiatives like these ensure that innovation and safety go hand in hand.
