Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd (PVPL) India has announced the launch of its first electric three-wheeler, the Piaggio Ape Electrik. It is slated to be launched on December 18, 2019. The Ape electric three-wheeler will be the first electric commercial vehicle of the company in India.
The company is very confident that it will revolutionize last-mile mobility in India. Like most of the previous Ape models, the upcoming Piaggio Ape Electrik is also likely to serve both goods and passenger carrier segments and is likely to come with swappable Lithium-ion batteries.
At this instant, the technical specifications and other details about the electric three-wheeler, Piaggio Ape Electrik are unknown. However, in early November, the company has entered a strategic partnership with SUN Mobility, for its swappable battery technology.
Later, Piaggio also said that its upcoming electric vehicles will come with smart swappable batteries with advanced lithium-ion technology. The new swappable battery technology will increase the overall efficiency of the vehicle which in turn will increase the better pickup and mileage.
The company will also provide a network of quick interchange stations, which will allow the electric three-wheeler drivers to swap their batteries in under 2 minutes. Thereby, Piaggio will effectively address concerns around range limitations and long refueling time.
Other details of the Ape Electric three-wheeler such as battery capacity and the driving range will be revealed during the time of the launch.
