Tata’s success mantra seems to be achieving without compromising
Tata Motors, a leading Indian automaker, and pioneer in EV development in India, today announced that sales of the country’s best-selling electric vehicle, the Nexon EV, have reached 50,000 units. Since its launch in 2020, Nexon EV has revolutionized the Indian EV market by bringing the EV experience directly to people as a long-distance home vehicle. Nexon EV has been launched to overcome barriers to EV adoption for Indian customers. It has become the enabling product for India’s electrified mobility journey.
Nexon EV is now available in over 500 cities across India and has driven more than 900 million kilometers on various terrains. This demonstrates the trust of the strong Nexon EV community of 50,000 people to undertake long-distance trips of up to 1,500km at a time. On average, Nexon EV owners drive about 6.3 million kilometers per month with 100 to 400 km of road and off-road trips. This has also boosted charging infrastructure growth in India, which has seen 1500% growth from FY21 to FY23. Today, they have over 6,000 charging stations across the country, demonstrating how barriers to the mass adoption of electric vehicles have been removed.
Commenting on this milestone, Vivek Srivatsa, Head of Marketing, Sales and Service Strategy at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility said: “and a real solution for accelerating EV adoption in India. Nexon EV customers have grown to 50,000 in just three years. In this way, India is embracing electric vehicles as a form of mobility. We would like to thank the early adopters who believed in the potential of Nexon electric vehicles. They have grown the electric vehicle ecosystem into what it is today. We hope more people will experience electric vehicles’ potential and switch to electric vehicles.
With a range increased to 453km, the Nexon EV has successfully entered the Indian record book. It achieved the ‘fastest’ trip from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in an electric vehicle. It took just 95 hours and 46 minutes (less than 4 days) to travel 4,003 km, successfully demonstrating its ability to travel between multiple cities. While driving, the Nexon EV, like any other vehicle, navigated difficult terrain and extreme weather conditions. It achieved real-world ranges of over 300 km on average. A total of 25 records were set during this recording effort.
The Nexon EV contributes up to 15% of the Nexon brand’s total turnover and comes in Prime, Max and #Dark versions priced from Rs 14.49 lakh. Sales trends show many young buyers choose the Nexon EV.
