A concept Lamborghini EV will be unveiled next week

The much-missed Estoque will be reborn as an electric GT crossover in 2028

Lamborghini will unveil a concept version of its first upcoming electric vehicle (EV) during this year’s Monterey Car Week in California, which runs from August 18-20.

Along with the Revuelto, Urus, and the upcoming Huracan successor, this first electric Lamborghini model will debut in production form in 2028.

It will have a 2+2 seating setup, in spite of the fact that it stays hazy whether the creation vehicle will be a low-riding terrific traveler or a more exceptional hybrid.

Previous rumors have indicated that Lamborghini’s first electric car resembles the four-door Estoque concept from 2008 and the two-door Asterion concept from 2014.

During a Autocar’s interview in July 2022, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said the 2+2 electric model would feature “new body styling, new technology, and plenty of opportunities to remake Lamborghini” and would be “very recognizable, but also have to be something completely new.” There’s no word yet on what platform would underpin the 2+2 electric Lamborghini, but Winkelmann has previously told the media, including Inside EVs, that it would not run on it. Customization is the hallmark of Lamborghini. Volkswagen Group brands will instead share components.

After the 2+2 electric Lamborghini launches in 2028, it will be beaten by Ferrari in the market. Raging Bull’s major rival now plans to introduce its first electric car by 2025.

Lamborghini first detailed its electrification plan for 2021, in which the 2+2 electric system was first revealed under the blackout curtain. Lamborghini will electrify its range over the next two years, which will allow it to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2025.

An Aventador successor, the Revuelto, has been unveiled recently by the company. By 2024, the Urus will have a V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, replacing the Huracan’s hybrid technology.

A 2029 launch of an electric Urus has previously been confirmed by Winkelmann.

  • Does electrification open the door to more Lamborghinis?

“Urus is the first step in our journey to becoming a three-model company.  People and money are invested heavily in this project. Before taking further steps, we must make each step work. It’s time to move on to the new car.”

  • Given its success, how well does Urus protect you?

“It gives us more stability. At the time, its launch seemed like a real gamble, but it was a huge success and gave us space to invest in a fourth model line. Otherwise, not only will our future be more difficult, but also our present.”

  • Is there more room in the market for other SUVs?

“There are limits to what we can do, both in terms of production that we don’t want to stretch too much and in terms of price, which we don’t want to get too low.”

  • What about the more special versions?

“We’ll keep making them occasionally, but we’ll make sure not to overdo it. Super special cars are still in demand, but we need to explore what is possible. It’s all about finding opportunities in advance and pre-selling to customers that buy the idea. We don’t need to risk anything if there’s no profit.”
