Affordability is a big deal when it comes to buying an electric car. Although prices have become more manageable as the EV industry evolves, it’s still something that is a prominent issue when you go shopping for an electric vehicle.
It stands to reason that if you start your search looking for pre-owned Volkswagen cars rather than new, that’s a strategy that is going to stretch your budget further. Another consideration would be to have an eye on the future, especially when you learn that the German car giant is planning to roll out its cheapest electric car yet off the production line in 2027.
With that in mind, let’s take a sneaky look behind the curtain to see what Volkswagen is planning to unveil shortly.
A new concept, but no name yet
About two years ago, Volkswagen revealed an exciting project that it called the ID.2all concept. The key takeaway from this big reveal was that it intended to produce an EV that would have an entry point of just $20K.
An entry-level EV from a major car manufacturer like Volkswagen that comes in at that sort of price level is clearly going to cause a stir in the electric vehicle market. All we know right now is that plans are well underway to start production in 2027, but Volkswagen is being very tight-lipped about what they are going to call this exciting new EV concept car.
Taking the lead from the ID.1
It may well be the case that VW goes with ID.2, as it is modelled on what it has achieved with the ID.1, and then enhances its options from there.
It could even be that it sticks with ID.1 and then goes with a newer, more advanced version of its existing EV offering. Ultimately, it’s all speculation at this point. However, what we do know is that battery charging times and range are going to be key selling points.
It has been the subject of speculation that VW is going to unveil this new EV model with an intended range of about 450 kilometres. The other attractive feature is the speed of charging. If you can recharge a battery to 80% capacity within 20 minutes, that is going to be a big attraction to buyers.
The motoring press is waiting for more information from Volkswagen, and the excitement continues to build in the meantime. What we do know, for sure, is that a car manufacturer with such a stellar reputation for engineering excellence and build quality is always going to be an attractive proposition if you are in the market for an affordable EV in the near future.
Volkswagen is a premier auto manufacturer with a strong lineup of vehicles to choose from. When it is ready to unveil its affordable EV to the world, there’s bound to be plenty of interest, and no shortage of people wanting to become part of the EV revolution. Especially when there’s a model that comes in at such an affordable price point.
